“To create art, we must be willing to embrace a state of uncertainty.”
Wherever people come together, boundaries may be crossed or discrimination may occur—consciously or unconsciously. I am responsible for ensuring that rehearsal processes are fair, but I cannot resolve conflicts on my own; this requires the willingness of all involved. The following points clarify the principles of my working methods and outline steps for dealing with challenging situations.
Working practices
We work together in a spirit of goodwill and on an equal footing, discussing how we want to shape the process based on our needs. In doing so, we take into account different energy levels, boundaries, and capacities, and treat time and agreements with respect.
Rehearsals begin with arriving together, warming up, and checking in. We discuss how we want to start the day physically and mentally. Breaks are a given; we decide together when and how long we need them.
Values and wishes
It is important that all participants......
... enjoy caring, collaborative work, remain curious, and help create an environment that is tolerant of mistakes.
... take responsibility for their own needs and come to terms with their own capacities....
.... are willing to compromise and support each other....
.... tolerate ambivalence and differences and reject violence; sometimes there are no quick solutions, and I wish that we can endure this together.
... being able to give and accept feedback.
... not avoiding conflicts and proactively addressing them. It is always possible to withdraw from unpleasant situations; at the same time, there is an interest in mediation, including with external support if necessary.
... finding enjoyment in the process, seeking motivation, and appreciating small results.
Authorship
I strive for cooperation and participation in all projects. Roles and contributions are agreed upon in advance to provide clarity about credits and responsibilities. In collaborations, decisions are made jointly. In projects under the label “Jenny Beyer,” I am responsible for the artistic vision, propose choreographic tasks, design the rehearsal process, and make decisions in case of doubt.
